At Lake Cargelligo Central School, we know that students thrive when they feel safe, supported and connected. Wellbeing is at the heart of our school culture, underpinning every aspect of learning and life. We aim to equip our students with the confidence, resilience and sense of belonging they need to achieve their goals and contribute positively to their community. To support this, our school provides a wide range of initiatives, organised across the following key areas:
Health & Support Services
- Wellbeing Hub – a safe and welcoming space where students can access support, care, and connection throughout the day.
- Wellbeing Hub lunches – providing healthy meals for students to ensure no child goes without.
- Access to washing machines and dryers – helping families and students with clean uniforms and clothing.
- Clothing pool – offering access to quality second-hand uniforms and clothing items for students in need.
- Access to the WHIN Nurse – on-site health checks, medical advice, and referrals.
- School Support Officers (SSOs) – providing daily wellbeing check-ins, mentoring, and trusted support.
- Counselling services and referrals – for additional mental health and wellbeing support.
- Breakfast program – ensuring students start the day nourished and ready to learn.
- Community health partnerships – working with local providers and agencies to extend care.
- Connection with external services – supporting families with housing, health, and wellbeing needs.
Learning & Academic Support
- Learning and Support Team (LaST) – coordinating tailored assistance for students with additional learning or wellbeing needs.
- Homework and assessment clubs – after-school support to build learning confidence.
- Peer mentoring and buddy programs – encouraging older students to guide younger peers.
- Transition programs – easing the move from preschool to primary and primary to high school.
- EAL/D programs – targeted support for students learning English as an additional language or dialect.
Cultural Belonging & Identity
- Yinaagang Aboriginal Girls Program – a national award-winning initiative promoting belonging, identity, and excellence.
- Clontarf Academy – offering mentoring, leadership, sporting, and cultural opportunities for Aboriginal boys.
- Cultural Hub – a dedicated space for yarning, cultural learning, and strengthening identity.
- NAIDOC celebrations and Aboriginal Education initiatives – embedding culture into school life.
- Cultural immersion days – learning from Country, Elders, and knowledge holders.
- Student-led cultural leadership – including Acknowledgements of Country and AECG participation.
Engagement & Enrichment
- After school clubs – including dance, cultural, academic support, and interest-based activities.
- Extracurricular opportunities – visual arts, music, drama, creative writing, and community performances.
- Outdoor education and camps – promoting resilience, teamwork, and life skills.
- Special events and awareness days – such as R U OK? Day, Harmony Day, and Mental Health Month.
Leadership & Student Voice
- Student leadership roles – Captains, SRC, and House Captains.
- Cultural leadership opportunities – through Yinaagang, Clontarf, and Cultural Hub.
- Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award – fostering leadership, resilience, and service.
- Student voice forums – providing platforms for students to share ideas and shape decisions.
- Peer-support roles – enabling students to lead and support their peers.
Attendance & Connection
- Morning Bus Run – supporting regular attendance and a positive start to the school day.
- Attendance meetings – working with families to remove barriers to attendance and set growth goals.
- Family engagement initiatives – strengthening home–school partnerships through regular communication and events.
- Connections with external services – ensuring wraparound support for families with complex needs.
